Come Join Karen’s Writing Challenge

A good friend of mine and fellow writer Karen Sanders has issued a Writing Challenge, where every week she will give out a list of 10 words, and you have to write a short story that includes all of those words, in their exact form.

This is not only great fun, it also helps to overcome writers block, and you never know what stories the submitters are going to come up with.

Everyone’s mind works differently, and you can guarantee that not two stories are going to be remotely alike.  In fact when I have done this type of contest before, some of the entries have been absolutely hilarious.

Article Summary 9th August 2010

This is a list of articles that I have written on Associated Content in the last week, I hope you will take a look at them and also enjoy them.

I write on a number of topics, usually it depends on what comes into my head on any given day, so it could be a travel story, memoirs from my life, something from the daily news, or even a poem inspired by something.

This is what I have published in the last week, enjoy:

  • While Chelsea Clinton’s wedding ceremony was an immensely lavish event, is it right for a member of the US Government to be seen splashing out this kind of money when the US Economy is struggling.
  • In part II of our walk along the River Hamble in Hampshire from Swanwick to Warsash, we see some houseboats and the salt marshes at low tide.
  • When a soldier’s Rosary beads fell on the ground he saw that he was standing on a land mine and that saved his life. His grandfather’s life was also miraculously saved by Rosary beads in World War II.
  • This is an independent look at what the celebrity gossip press has been reporting in the USA over the last week, as seen from a British Point Of View, featuring Lindsay Lohan off to Rehab, Jessica Alba returning home, and Britney Spears going braless.
  • In part III of our walk along the Hamble River from Swanwick to Warsash, we came across this field of really cute Donkeys.
  • This week on Offbeat News, a 12 year old girl fights off an intruder, a giant wasp nest in a pub, flying without make-up, swimming with ducks, a lawnmower race cut short, a Miss Chubby contest, and WWJD prevents store robbery.
  • Having waved goodbye to the donkeys (see part III of our walk), we continue on the path that leads along the Hamble River from Swanwick to Warsash.
  • The National Archives have released wartime documents that show Winston Churchill was involved in keeping UFO sightings secret to prevent mass panic.
  • As we approach the village of Warsash, we pass some big houses, and see visitors in one of the gardens. We also find unusual pink ferry boats.
  • Emma Watson best known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies has adopted a short sixties style hairstyle giving her a stunning Mia Farrow look (link to pictures).
  • Having reached Warsash, we stopped for a drink in The Rising Sun pub, then looked at the memorial plaques for the Commandos who left here on 5th June 1944 on their epic journey to the Normandy Beaches.
  • On our walk back to Swanwick from Warsash the tide has come in, and the view of the salt marshes and boats is quite different as you will see. Also several more houses to make you drool.
  • This lone Swan came swimming up to us shortly before the end of our walk along the Hamble River from Swanwick to Warsash. I think he just wanted to get his photograph taken.

So Close To 100,000 Page Views – Can You Help Me To Reach My Target Today?

I just saw that I am only 776  Page Views away from 100,000 which would be a great target to reach today, but with visitors to my articles on Associated Content being really slow this month, I am not confident I can make it.

Have you read any of my articles on Associated Content lately, if at all?

I joined in January and currently have 343 articles, which include my writing about a myriad of different topics, as well as publishing slide shows of places that I have been to, writing poems, and there is even one audio poem if you ever wondered what I sound like (I hate the sound of my voice by the way).

If you have a few minutes, would you be able to help me to reach my target by reading any of my articles, or viewing my slideshows etc?

Each page that you view counts as One Page View (it’s that simple for once), so if you find an article that is three pages long and read each page, that’s three Page Views.

Any help that you can give would be much appreciated, and if you do find something that you like, there are links at the bottom left of the page below each article, where you can share it using Twitter, Facebook, and a number of other sites as well.

Thanks so much for helping in advance, for accelerating me past this huge target and on to the next, and for being a good friend.

Article Summary 19th July 2010

This is a list of articles that I have written on Associated Content in the last week, I hope you will take a look at them and also enjoy them.

I write on a number of topics, usually it depends on what comes into my head on any given day, so it could be a travel story, memoirs from my life, something from the daily news, or even a poem inspired by something.

This is what I have published in the last week, enjoy:

  • Weekends can sometimes be hectic, but it’s not just late nights and partying that cause us to have that Monday Morning Feeling once the weekend is over. Sometimes other factors are to blame…
  • The second part of our virtual tour of Sandbanks Peninsula Dorset, shows the beach huts and the Haven Hotel at the entrance to Poole Harbour.
  • The Ex-Blocker is a new plugin for Firefox/Chrome that erases all trace of your Ex from the internet. Facebook profile or Google searches will not find them any longer.
  • Baked Beans in the UK is a lot more than a side dish that you serve with a Barbecue meal – it’s a meal in itself and can be served in so many different ways – but especially on toast.
  • The final part of our tour of Sandbanks shows shipping entering Poole Harbour, and crossing the entrance to the harbour on Sandbanks Ferry.
  • Weird News stories in this Offbeat News edition include striped buttocks, a stoned pug, lovesick llama drama, Pulpo Paul invited to Spain, PM invites pretty girls to Italy, a sinkhole in Tampa, and cross-dressing bridal thieves.
  • Swanage is a seaside town located in the Purbeck Hills, west of Bournemouth and Poole in Dorset, on the South Coast of England. Swanage has retained a lot of it’s character from a bygone age.
  • The Pacific Ocean Trash Dump or Pacific Vortex is where all trash in the oceans gravitate to. Plans are under way to turn it into a habitable island, which is self-sufficient and comprised of recycled plastics.
  • Reports have come in today of a fourth tape that has been leaked to the Internet, with actor Mel Gibson threatening to burn the house because his ex fell asleep without giving him sex.
  • In part two of our tour of the seaside town of Swanage in Dorset, we take a look at more of the water front, and some of the quaint old buildings in the town.
  • A couple who tried to blackmail John Stamos, best known for his roles in Full House and ER, have been fined $680,000. It’s not the Full House that they are going to – it’s the Big House.
  • Oksana Grigorieva, girlfriend of Mel Gibson and mother of his daughter, claims that she has photographs proving he bruised her during a blazing row in January, when the baby was two months old.
  • Nothing can be quite compared To gazing up at the sky Lying back on a clear calm night And looking up on high
  • The final part of our tour of Swanage in Dorset shows some of the different types of pubs in the town, and then the Swanage Railway, which has been restored since the line was closed in the 1960′s.

A New Site For Writers To Earn Money

Edited 6th May 2011:
Sadly the site that was featured in this article, and that created a lot of anticipation, failed to survive, and is now kaput like so many others before it.
However, I would like to direct you to another site where you can earn money for posting articles, as well as for uploading Links, Photographs and Videos.
The site is Redgage, it’s FREE to join, and you can learn more about it HERE.

I received a special announcement today about a new site that is looking for writers to join and will pay them $10 – $100 for all articles that make the front page.

This is a good opportunity for writers with and without experience, and with many international authors (non American) having just left Associated Content, the timing is prudent.

For more information, take a look at the introductory message from their web site HERE.

This is a genuine writing opportunity for existing writers or those who want to write, brought to you from the owners of Qondio.

More information to follow soon…

Catching Up

It’s been a while since I wrote a new post on our blog, and for a few reasons.

Firstly, life has just been very hectic lately, with Debbie’s daughter, husband, 9 month old baby and 2 dogs coming to live with us 3 months ago.  The extra people in the house, especially a baby and 2 dogs, just made it harder to focus on all the writing that I wanted to do.

They are headed out to South Africa (emigrating) in a few weeks, as soon as the visas have been sorted out, so soon we will have the house to ourselves again.  No doubt it will be then almost too quiet!   The dogs have gone to new homes, so no more barking or mud trodden into the carpets, however Debbie’s grandson is now in between the crawling and walking stage, and has discovered how to shriek at a pitch and loudness that is dangerous for your health.  It’s that “fun” stage where the word “NO” doesn’t seem to mean anything, so it keeps you on your toes, and nothing is safe!

Secondly, we only moved into the house at the end of October, and there are plenty of things that need doing, both inside and in the garden.  It’s taken a lot of our time, but again it’s been hard to get motivated to do some things.

Thirdly and most importantly, we finally got married in April, and went to Cornwall on honeymoon.  The preparations for the wedding took a lot of Debbie’s focus and time, and also mine to an extent.

Lastly, in an attempt to try and boost my online earnings, I have been writing a lot over at Associated Content.  This is a great site for authors wanting to get noticed, and if you are thinking of writing to earn some money, I definitely recommend it.  Click Here to register, and even if you don’t want to write, you can opt to be sent an email every time I publish a new article.

So what do I write about?

Pretty much anything really, from written articles to poetry to slideshows of our trips and local area.  Topics recently have included the UK General Election, the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud, movie quizes and a lot more.  Just visit my account at Associated Content and take a look.

I am hoping that as the year progresses both Debbie and I will be back writing here as well, but you can always see what we are up to, every Sunday there is a Twitter summary posted here, and on Mondays a summary of my new publications over at Associated Content.

I hope you have a chance to read some of what I have written there, and every page view counts towards my earnings total.  If you do visit, please be sure to leave a comment to let me know you were there.
