I think anyone who suffers with back pain will agree that a sore back is the last thing that you want over Christmas.
I have suffered with back pain on occasion ever since I had a slipped disk, which was 30 years ago. Most of the time it’s ok, but once in a while I get a trapped nerve, which can give me a lot of back pain, anywhere from a few hours to a week.
My back has been fine for months, but Christmas Eve, having got the day off work, I went to the gym in the morning and had a good workout, including the power jet in the hot tub at the gym, which I usually find good on my back.
Well I felt good, drove home from the gym, went to get out of the car, and Ouch!
Trapped nerve, my worst fear for the holidays.
When I do get a trapped nerve in my back, and I am sure you can identify with this, I find it really hard to stand upright, and standing up at an angle just makes the pain worse. Sitting for too long makes it worse as well, so it’s time to dose up on the Ibuprofen and hope for the best.
Well Christmas Eve was fairly painful, Christmas Day was worse, and even Boxing Day the pain didn’t subside.
So, this morning, being off work for the holidays, I thought that a trip to the gym would be a good idea. Kill or cure like.
I drove to the gym, went to the door, only to find they had problems with the fire alarm system, so for health and safety reasons they had to evacuate the place.
So no hope there to help get things moving and hopefully untrap the nerve. My back is also more likely to get painful when I put on weight, so working out at the gym I thought ought to help me lose a pound or so (wishful thinking) as well as exercising the back muscles. Fat chance with the gym closed!
So here we are Friday evening, it’s still really painful, but with luck, some more Ibuprofen and a good sleep, it will be a bit better in the morning.
Wish me luck.
