With dark grey skies and pouring rain
You can tell it’s a holiday, once again
Christmas is over and to pay for my sins
I was going to take a walk to the gym
But the thought of going out and getting wet
Hasn’t got me leaving the house, at least not yet
There’s splatters of rain on the living room windows
Making me feel like I’d definitely be better off indoors
If I don’t go to the gym at the start of the day
My urge to work out so quickly fades away
And so with the time having now reached well past eleven
I am mentally torn between what would be hell or what would be heaven
So, do I go out in the wet when I have lost my mental urge
Or do I stay in the warm, eat fattening food and gorge
I’m not really in the mood to watch more tv
But to sit and do nothing, I guess that’s what it’s to be
Well I hope your post Christmas is happier than this
A bit more productive, maybe, or just more packs of crisps
So I’ll settle myself down, having published this rhyme
And catch up with you later, if I can just find the time
A short rhyme by Tony Payne, December 2021
