Arrrggghhh I Hate That Christmas Song!

It’s that time of year again when it’s practically impossible to escape the sound of Christmas songs on the radio, television or even when you are out shopping.

Most Christmas songs I like,  there are a few I love and look forward to, but there are a handful that I don’t like, and a couple that I really can’t bear to listen to at all.

Second from bottom comes Little Drummer Boy, which I know a lot of people like, but it just gets on my nerves with the constant “rum-pa-pum-pum rum-pa-pum-pum” all the way through.

But the Christmas song that I loath the most, and by a long shot too, is Stop The Cavalry by Jona Lewie. I don’t know really why I don’t like it, but that Northern England brass band sound with the “oom-pah” just really irritates me. Trouble is, once I hear it, I can’t get the wretched thing out of my head, and so for the next few hours I have to listen to my inner self humming “Rum tum taddle um old John Bradelum, tum tum taddle um pom pom pom” and so on to the point where I want to literally scream.

Yesterday evening Debbie and I were watching television, when on it came, I think in a commercial. We both looked at each other and went “aaarrrggghhh!”, and while I tried hard to forget that I had heard it, she kept humming different bits of it, to which I responded “STOP IT”, “SHUT UP!”, “AAARRRGGGHHH!” etc, but it did no good…

So, having heard it again (in my head) this morning, I thought it was time to write a wretched article about this wretched song and try to bury it once and for all – at least until the next time I hear it.
