Ocean Front Property Takes On A New Meaning

Have you heard of the Pacific Ocean Vortex or Pacific Ocean Garbage Dump?

It’s a phenomenon that was not discovered until a few years ago, but apparently the ocean currents around the world have the effect of causing anything that floats in the ocean to accumulate in a few areas of ocean, one of which is an area of the Pacific Ocean that is twice the size of Texas, or to put it another way, the land area of France and Spain combined.

Much of the content of this humongous pile of garbage is plastics, which are causing heaps of problems for sea life, not only fish but also birds, such as the Albatros.

A Dutch company has obtained financing to build a recycling facility at this site, with the intent of turning the recycled plastics into land that is not only habitable, but they plan to grow crops, harvest seaweed for medicines etc, and to make this island more or less self sufficient.

It all sounds like something out of a science fiction book, but it’s real.
