Z Is For Zecharia Sitchin

The name Zecharia Sitchin may not mean anything to many who read this, but his death on 9th October 2010 at the age of 90 has left many wondering who will take his place.

Zecharia Sitchin was a unique man, one of those who spent a lifetime pursuing a dream, a challenge, that of unravelling the mysteries held by thousands of ancient texts, from Sumeria and other parts of the Middle East, which he translated, and came up with some amazing theories as to the origins of mankind.

Some ancient Sumerian texts that were translated a hundred years or more ago, when our technology was less advanced, were often literally translated, and the true meaning of them had really to be revealed. Sitchin’s re-translation of them placed a new meaning on some ancient legends and stories from man’s most ancient past, and when all the evidence is pieced together, many things that we do not understand about ancient times, actually begin to make sense.

In the last 50 years we have discovered many things about ancient times that we did not know before. Some of these discoveries do not make sense, especially if we believe everything that we were taught in history at school, and yet if you open your mind to new ideas, the picture can be made clear.

Many of Zecharia Sitchin’s theories have been denounced as ridiculous, especially when he published his first book, The Twelfth Planet, which brings to the reader ancient stories that tell of the Gods, the Annunaki or “Nefilim” as they are called in the Book of Genesis, coming to our Earth from a 12th planet in the Solar System, one that has a very elliptical orbit, and only comes close to Earth every 3,600 years.

The Annunaki created man “in their own image”, in a birthing chamber “E-Din” (Garden of Eden), and the stories in many ways are a far more detailed account of what can be read in the early chapters of Genesis.

The stories that Sitchin translated tell much about the “Gods”, their genealogy, their divisions, and the wars that went on between different groups over time.

Much of this history occurred thousands of years before the Great Flood (Noah’s Flood), which again is told in far more detail in the Sumerian Epic Of Gilgamesh.

Whatever you believe or refuse to believe, consider this. In the middle ages we believed that the Earth was flat and lay at the center of the universe. Only following the Renaissance did these beliefs change, but scientists like Galileo who tried to challenge the beliefs of the day, were often imprisoned or even put to death as heretics.

It is curious however is it not, that the further we go back in time, the more man knew about the heavens, and it’s far more than believing that people had nothing better to do in ancient times than to lie on their backs and watch the stars.

If thousands of years before Christ was born man was so primitive, how come we have drawings of flying machines, what are likely to be electrical circuits and batteries, and then physical objects like the Antikythera Mechanism, which is far too advanced to have been built in Greek times (it was found in the wreck of an ancient Greek ship).

Fact is, recent investigations have proved that there was communication in ancient times between Europe and South America. Mankind was more advanced the further you go back in time, and legends like Atlantis, or even creatures like Minotaurs and Centaurs are likely to have been based on fact, not just myths or fantasies.

If civilizations existed before the Great Flood, much evidence of these has obviously been destroyed. With man existing at the time of the last ice age, glaciers would have covered much of the planet, wiping virtually all traces of civilisation away, and forcing those who remained alive into survival mode.

It remains to be seen what future discoveries will unravel, and with the passing of this great man, whether anyone else will take up the challenge of uncovering the truth about the origins of mankind.
